About Us

SkillsUSA, a national, nonprofit organization, is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry.  While working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce, SKillsUSA helps every student excel.  Founded in 1965, SkillsUSA has developed nearly 8 millions well-rounded workers through active partnerships between employers and educators.  SkillsUSA, with approximately 13,000 school chapters in 54 state and territory associations, serves more than 300,000 members annually.

SkillsUSA's mission is to help its members become world-class workers and responsible American citizens.

South Carolina Department of Education received its charter in 1966, and was one of the original charters.

SkillsUSA serves high school and college students, who are enrolled in programs preparing them for technical, skilled, and service careers.

SkillsUSA adds to students' technical training by teaching them leadership skills, teamwork, citizenship, and character development.  These are all things that go into shaping responsible, reliable employees who will one day become leaders in the workplace.

SkillsUSA is not only endorsed by the US and State Departments of Education, but is also cited in federal legislation as an integral part of technical curriculum.

SkillsUSA is an applied method of learning where students practice skills and build self-confidence while helping their schools and communities.

The program emphasizes high ethical standards, superior work skills, lifelong education, and pride.  SkillsUSA also promotes community service, patriotism, and an understanding of the free enterprise system.  More than 1,000 business, industry, and labor sponsors actively support SkillsUSA through financial aid, in-kind contributions and involvement of their personnel in SkillsUSA activities.  Many work directly with local chapters in their area.

SCSkillsUSA is an organization of which every career and technology student should want to join.  All teachers should provide SkillsUSA opportunities for their students.  School administrators must support their teachers and students in their SkillsUSA endeavors.
